American Society for Quality (ASQ)
The leading quality improvement organization in the United States. Located in Milwaukee, WI, ASQC has initiated most of the quality methods now being used throughout the world.
Andean Community
Trade bloc consisting of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.
Caribbean Community Common
Market (CARICOM)
Trade Bloc consisting of Antigua, Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago.
Central American Common Market (CACM)
Trade pact between Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua.
European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC)
The organization that establishes all European product standards in the electrotechnical field.
It bases most of its standards on the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
European Committee for Standardization (CEN)
The organization that establishes European product standards in all areas other than the electrotechnical field which is the responsibility of CENELEC.
European Conference of Postal & Telecommunications Administrators (CEPT)
Official Organization that establishes all European product standards in telecommunications, information technology and broadcasting, ("NETS").
European Economic Area (EEA)
Trade bloc consisting of all 15 members of the European Union (EU) plus Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway.
European Free Trade Association (EFTA)
Trade bloc consisting of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. All but Switzerland are also members of the European Economic Area (EEA).
European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI)
The organization that develops European standards for telecommunications, information technology and broadcasting (referred to as "NETS").
European Union (EU)
Trade bloc consisting of 27 countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyrus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom (UK).
Export Administration Regulations (EAR)
Official government rules and regulations for the export or re-export of goods from the United States to foreign markets. They are designed to strengthen U. S. national security, support U. S. foreign policy, and safeguard U. S. natural resources.
Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIMBANK)
A government/private agency that assists U. S. exporters in financing sales of U. S. products in foreign markets. Provides direct loans, working capital loans, intermediary loan guarantees and non-payment insurance.
Export Institute of the United States
Parent company of the Export Training Center USA. EXPORTUSA has been educating and assisting exporters worldwide since 1964.
Export Trade Leads Center
Contains over 16,000 worldwide trade opportunities (buyers only). The largest site of this type on the Internet., it is free with the purchase of one Foreign Customer List from the Export Institute of the United States.
Foreign Customer Lists
Complete contact information on 150,000 import agents, distributors and wholesalers in 137 countries. Importers are classified by types of products they buy and regions of the world.
Group of Three (G-3)
Trade pact between Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela.
Harmonized Commodity Description And Coding System
An international six-digit commodity classification developed under the auspices of the Customs Cooperation Council. Individual countries have extended it to 8 digits for export purposes and to 10 digits for customs purposes.
International Market Research and Business Intelligence Reports
Global market research studies and reports broken down by products, industries, countries and regions of the world.
International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
Focuses on non-electrical product areas. It is a sister organization of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
International Trade Administration (ITA)
Acts as the foreign trade arm of the U. S. Department of Commerce.
ISO Standards Series
ISO Standards deal exclusively with the quality system that a company uses to manufacture its products. They do not guarantee the quality of the resulting products.
MERCOSUR
Trade pact between Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.
NAFTA Certificate of Origin
This document qualifies goods for preferential duty treatment under the terms of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
National Center for Standards and Certification Information (NCSCI)
Provides research services on product standards, technical regulations and conformity assessment procedures for non-agricultural products.
National Technical Information Service (NTIS)
Handles the sale of scientific, technical, engineering and related business information provided by the U.S. Federal Government.
North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
Trade pact between Canada, Mexico and the United States. In terms of combined Gross National Product (GNP), it is the largest trade bloc in the world.
Product Classification Schedules
Contain the 10-digit identification numbers that every item must have before it can be exported from the United States.
SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives)
A resource partner of the U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA), SCORE is comprised of very experienced, retired executives who want to help small businesses and entrepreneurs become successful.
Simplified Network Application Process (SNAP)
A web-based system that enables U. S. exporters to submit export license applications, high performance computer notices and commodity classification requests directly to the Bureau of the Industry and Security ( BIS) via the Internet in a secure environment.
State International Trade Offices (USA)
State government agencies that actively promote the export activities of businesses and entrepreneurs located within their respective states.
Trade Advocacy Center (TAC)
U. S. Government office that assists U. S. exporters experiencing unfair treatment by foreign buyers or governments.
Trade Information Center (TIC)
U. S. Department of Commerce web site which features "how to export" information and answers to questions about international tariffs and duties.
TradePort
California web site for use by ALL exporters - not just those located in the state of California. Includes information dealing with how to export, market research and export trade leads.
Trade Promotion Coordinating Committee (TPCC)
U. S. Government web site featuring "how to" information and answers to questions about worldwide tariffs and duties.
U. S. Census Bureau
Their International Programs Center (IPC), part of the Population Division of the U.S. Bureau of the Census, conducts demographic and socioeconomic studies worldwide.
U. S. Department of Commerce (USDOC)
The U. S. Federal Government Agency responsible for developing economic growth for U. S. businesses domestically and internationally. The Secretary of Commerce is a member of the Cabinet of the President.
U. S. Export Assistance Centers (USEACs)
Local government offices that combine the services of the U. S. Department of Commerce (USDOC), Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIMBANK) in one location.
U. S. Government Printing Office
Web site that offers thousands of publications of the Federal Government which can be purchased by credit card.
U.S. Metric Association (USMA), Inc.
National non-profit organization that strongly advocates U.S. conversion to modern metric system that is used throughout the world.
U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA)
Federal agency dedicated to assisting U. S. small business and entrepreneurs. Offers interesting information on how to start your own export business.
United Nations (UN) Statistical Yearbook
This for-purchase publication provides data on the world economy, its structure, major trends and current performance. It covers world population and social statistics, global economic activity and international economic relations.
United States Council for International Business (USCIB)
Pro-trade lobby organization that offers information on exporting and a means to settle international trade disputes. It is primarily known for selling ATA Carnets .
World Gazetteer
Provides information about current populations of countries, cities and towns.
World Trade Associations
Private local organizations that bring exporters and service providers together to discuss common problems and opportunities in international trade.
World Trade Centers
Commercially-franchised centers designed to assist exporters not only in their area but worldwide. Many offer exporting services and international market research information.
World Trade Organization (WTO)
The only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. Membership is comprised of 144 countries including the United States.
